Ethiopia: Travel

After your adoption case goes to the court, the final steps of official stamps, translations into English, applying for a new birth certificate for the child, applying for the child's passport and I604 form with the US Embassy are completed.  Travel to Ethiopia will occur about 2 to 3 months after the court date.

Small World will guide you with your travel arrangements to Ethiopia.  Both parents are required to travel on the first trip for the court appearance.  Only 1 parent is required to travel on the second trip to take the child home.

The stay in Ethiopia for the first trip will be approximately 2 to 3 business days.  The stay in Ethiopia for the second trip is generally about one week.  Small World and Hope Adoption’s staff will coordinate in-country arrangements, including ground transportation, lodging, and translators. Families fly into the capital city, Addis Ababa, where they are assisted by a Hope Adoption representative. During your stays, you will visit the American Consulate in Addis Ababa to receive your child’s visa.
