Guatemala: Adoption Program

The future stability of the Guatemala adoption program is unsure as the United States and Guatemala work to implement Hague International Adoption standards. Please speak with our staff before applying.
Small World’s Guatemala program is a relatively new program. We have worked hard to establish a program in the country that sends over 2,000 children to the United States each year. We have no doubt that this program will grow to be a wonderful benefit to many children that need a family. Guatemala processes adoptions through a private system where the mothers surrender their parental rights as early as when the child is a few days old. Families wishing to adopt from Guatemala can expect a referral in approximately 2-6 months after your dossier is completed. Sometimes referrals are of children just a week old. Throughout the adoption process your child is cared for in an orphanage or a private foster care home. Small World’s experienced staff will lead you through the process step by step. Our representatives in Guatemala are English speaking and are dedicated to making your trip to Guatemala an informative and memorable experience.
